A Natural and Nutritious Diet for Your Pet!
A nutritious diet is the cornerstone of your pet's health and long-life. The choices we make on behalf of our pets regarding their diet are perhaps the single-most important decision that can affect their well being. Mulligan Stew® Pet Food has developed a progressive formula designed to provide a substantially nutritious and low fat diet, while increasing both the bioactivity and levels of certain enzymes, which aid in the protection of DNA.
Protein
Meat is the primary ingredient in Mulligan Stew. Our varieties of beef, chicken, turkey and wild salmon provide the amino acids and proteins that build and heal tissue, blood and bone.
Cruciferous Vegetables
Cabbage and horseradish contain high amounts of glutathione peroxidase, powerful enzymes that play significant roles in scavenging the body for free radicals. These vegetables also provide the fiber required for a healthy digestive system.
Liver
Liver is a superior natural source of vitamin A, which promotes good eye sight and iron, which is necessary for the production of red blood cells and the transportation of oxygen throughout the body.
Brown Rice
The benefits of non-milled ground brown rice offer necessary minerals, vitamins, anti-oxidants and fiber. Foods rich in fiber are digested slowly, maintaining energy levels between mealtimes.
N-Acetyl Cysteine and L-Methionine
As an essential amino acid, methionine is not synthesized in mammals (including dogs and cats) hence we must ingest methionine or methionine-containing proteins. Methionine is important especially as a source of sulfur for the biosynthesis of cysteine and as a source of methyl groups for transmethylation reactions (as in the biosynthesis of choline, creatine, and adrenaline. Our formulation includes L-Methionine, which is a human grade pharmaceutical grade form of Methionine.
Acetylcysteine is the N-acetyl derivative of the amino acid L-cysteine, and is a precursor in the formation of the antioxidant glutathione in the body. L-cysteine confers antioxidant effects and is able to reduce free radicals. In addition, these amino acids appear to increase the benefits of glutathione peroxidase, powerful enzymes that play significant roles in scavenging the body for free radicals. Evidence shows that levels of these two essential compounds actually decrease in mammals as they age.
Beta Carotene
Beta Carotene is a powerful anti-oxidant with properties that may contribute to reducing the incidence of diseases such as cancer and heart disease. Carotenes can be stored in the liver and converted to vitamin A as needed, thus making it a provitamin.
Selenium
Selenium's role includes activation of enzymes which play key roles in cell preservation. Small amounts Selenium are necessary for cellular function in most, if not all, animals, forming the active center of the enzymes glutathione peroxidase, which has been shown to negate superoxide free radicals (Oz'). Low selenium levels have also been linked to premature aging in mammals.
